Bangor Grammar School: SEAG score and admissions criteria

Bangor · boys' voluntary grammar · September 2026 entry

This page shows exactly how Bangor Grammar School used SEAG results to allocate Year 8 places,
taken from the school’s own published admissions criteria. It is one of the
63 school evidence cards in our SEAG admissions guide.

Allocation pattern

Score rank order

Places go in strict SEAG score order, highest first, until the school is full. When scores tie at the cut-off, published tie-break criteria decide the final places.

How places were allocated for September 2026

  1. 135 places. Places are allocated in rank order of Total Standardised Age Score (TSAS), highest to lowest.
  2. Where applicants tie on the exact TSAS for the final place(s), non-academic criteria decide, in order: entitlement to Free School Meals (applied so the admitted FSM proportion is not below the FSM share of applications) → attending an Ards and North Down primary and being the eldest boy, an only child, or having a sibling at Bangor Grammar or Glenlola Collegiate → attending an Ards and North Down primary → then residence-based criteria.
  3. A capital fee of £140 per year applies.
Places go by score rank alone. Only when boys tie on the exact TSAS for the last place do the non-academic criteria apply — and the first of those is a Free School Meals proportion rule, not score. The Band is not used.
